Some guessed correctly or close to. Its an e36 316 compact. Mechanically excellent, cosmetically meh. The price? £280. Not sure what im doing with it yet, i just wanted it. So much fun to drive.

When financially possible, this is one of my favorite reasons to buy something.

Nice! My grandfather’s last car was a 316i. I have a weird affinity for Compacts.

Why does it seem like you can get really nice condition cars in Europe for dirt cheap?
![]() 05/29/2016 at 11:15 |

280 pounds? Daaaaaamn. Nice find!

“Closest so far”, I was .2 of litre and a colour away from being right. I demand an internet cookie!

That’s quite a nice project car! But you’re keeping the Twingo, right?
Is that an integrated iPhone dock btw?

Do you not have a twingo?

I’ve always thought of the compact as a cheap way of having something coupe like rather than having a cheaper saloon.
Yours looks pretty good. I’ve never liked the small round headlight later model though.

How can you even find a working car for £280, let alone one that looks in that nice of a shape, and that is a manual bmw.
![]() 05/29/2016 at 11:32 |
|
I like my BMWs like I like my HKs, compact; just kidding I don’t have a compact BMW. I can’t believe you can get cars for that cheap on the other side of the pond, it looks really clean.
![]() 05/29/2016 at 11:33 |

It doesn't look half bad at all.
![]() 05/29/2016 at 11:37 |

Why not give it to your dad when the Micras MOT runs out?
![]() 05/29/2016 at 11:39 |

Thats actually on the cards.

![]() 05/29/2016 at 12:19 |

£280 sounds suspicously low. You made a great deal!
![]() 05/29/2016 at 12:27 |

Have you factored in the cost of snapbacks and vape equipment, fam?
![]() 05/29/2016 at 12:29 |

Shit I haven't...
![]() 05/29/2016 at 12:29 |

Haha na I couldn’t get rid of that.
![]() 05/29/2016 at 12:30 |

Hmm it’d be hard to drive without it though.
![]() 05/29/2016 at 12:43 |

It was listed low but I did haggle a little.
![]() 05/29/2016 at 12:45 |

Especially in the UK. In continental Europe prices tend to be higher. Having said that, serious emissions and safety inspections combined with high fuel costs and ownership taxes mean running cars will depreciate to closer than zero than you’d see in the US.

Either you scored the deal of the month or something is wrong with the car. What’s the mileage?
![]() 05/29/2016 at 13:03 |
|
I hear a suitable substitute is to lean so far over that you left elbow is resting on the armrest with hand under your chin, then your right hand is at the ten o’clock position.
In all seriousness, good price for it

87000 miles and im saying deal of the year. It does have rust but not anywhere structural (front wings and a spot on the rear arch). Engine is sweet as a nut. Bloke who sold it to me had to get an automatic due to health reasons and just wanted it out of his way.
![]() 05/29/2016 at 13:09 |

Haha i do actually sit low and slightly leaned back. Yeah im surprised i got this much car for the cash.
![]() 05/29/2016 at 13:15 |

I got short arms so I sit close-ish and bolt upright, I’m also only 5ft 8.
Is it your first RWD? Always special, I remember just revving my MX5 to just to feel the car buck from side to side.
![]() 05/29/2016 at 13:15 |
|
Holy shit that’s awesome! The mileage should be no problem and the rust spots are fixable.
![]() 05/29/2016 at 13:19 |
|
Im 5'9 ish but i have like no torso and really long legs and arms so i sit pretty far back. My friend who i borrow a car from a lot has to move the seat forward for him to drive after me, hes 6'2... im odd.
![]() 05/29/2016 at 13:19 |
|
Yeah ill get cracking on the rust pretty soon most likely.
![]() 05/29/2016 at 13:25 |
|
Odd.

The manual part’s easy as most BMWs of this engine size are manual. As for the price, supply and demand. If you’re a person of the age who would be looking at a car in this price range, insurance and repair costs are a big issue and so the demand is small unless the car is very cheap.
